Yusril Sees Suspect Burns Makassar DPRD Building, Makes Sure Allotment Eats 3 Times

MAKASSAR - Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration and Corrections (Menko Kumham Imipas) Yusril Ihza Mahendra said the alleged perpetrators of the burning of the Makassar and South Sulawesi DPRDs were confirmed to get food three times a day.

"I had a conversation with the Kapolda earlier and made sure that the perpetrators got to eat three times a day, they were given a carpet for beds and enough exercise as well," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, September 10.

Yusril Ihza Mahendra said all the suspects based on his narrative admitted that during the detention process for the investigation they were treated well and no one was even beaten.

He stated that the apparatus or investigators were carrying out their duties professionally and trying their best to prove the guilt of the suspects.

"Professional investigators apply articles that are in accordance with the violations of the suspects. This process is also still long to court," he said.

Yusril explained that his visit to Makassar was on the orders of President Prabowo Subianto to ensure law enforcement officials were firm against anarchist actions that led to the destruction of public facilities, the burning of the DPRD building, and the loss of life.

Even though the authorities are firm, they still cannot ignore respect for everyone, namely their human rights as humans.

Regarding the background of the suspects, some are set as students, laborers, and ordinary people.

Meanwhile, for the perpetrators of the anarchist and brutal demonstrations, the police have arrested 42 people and they are detained in three different places, namely 27 people at the Makassar Polrestabes, 13 people in the South Sulawesi Police detention cell and two others in Palopo City.

"So until now a total of 42 people, 13 we have met and talked to the South Sulawesi Police detention cell and the rest are at the Makassar Polrestabes and Palopo City," he said.

Previously, protests led to riots that occurred on Friday (29/8) night until Saturday (30/8) early morning. The Makassar DPRD office and the South Sulawesi DPRD Office as well as two police posts were targeted by mass arson. In addition, a number of public facilities were also damaged.

A number of people became victims, four of whom died. Three victims were killed in a fire at the Makassar DPRD Office, Jalan Andi Pangeran Pettarani, and one other person, an Ojol driver, was beaten by a mob because he was thought to be intelligence in taking pictures while on Jalan Urip Sumoharjo. The rest suffered serious and moderate injuries.
