The Riau Regional Police's Special Criminal Investigation Directorate has dispatched a team to conduct an in-depth investigation regarding the death of a Sumatran elephant named Tari in the Tesso Nilo National Park (TNTN) area, Pelalawan Regency.

Head of Sub-Directorate IV of the Riau Police, AKBP Nasrudin, confirmed that his party was at the scene to investigate the cause of death of the protected animal.

"Members are currently at the TKP (Security Scene) in collaboration with people from TNTN, regarding the death of this elephant. It is still in the process of being investigated," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, September 10.

Until now, it is not known the exact cause of the elephant's death on Wednesday morning. However, it is suspected that there has been a poisoning that is still in the deepening stage.

"Regarding the possibility of being poisoned under investigation, it will be conveyed later," he said.

The day before being found dead, Tuesday (9/9), the dance was still in good health, actively playing, with a normal appetite, and showed no signs of illness. Only the intensity of breastfeeding is slightly reduced.

However, Wednesday, at around 08.00 WIB, the handler on duty found the dance lying down without movement. Veterinarian, Teguh, was immediately summoned to the location for a physical examination.

The results of the initial examination did not find any injuries or trauma on the elephant's body, but the stomach looked slightly bloating. The doctor then carried out a necropsy and took samples of the organ for further examination in the laboratory in Bogor.

Gajah Tari was born on August 31, 2023 from a mother named Lisa with a wild elephant. That way when he died he was only 2 years and 10 days old.
