JAKARTA - Israel's new law regulating all international aid organizations or NGOs is increasingly being used to hinder humanitarian efforts such as bringing food aid into Gaza.

The report was based on a joint letter signed by more than 100 humanitarian aid organizations and published today, Thursday, August 14.

Israel's authorities have rejected requests from dozens of NGOs to carry life-saving items, arguing that these organizations are "unauthorized to deliver aid", the joint statement reads, quoted from AFP.

Israel has long led a strict international aid organization into Gaza. Israeli officials often argue that organizations that openly carry food aid, clean water, clothing, and baby needs are biased.

Israel's efforts to tackle international aid organizations have been increasingly being carried out since their military invasion of Gaza in October 2023.

According to the joint letter, which was also signed by Oxfam and the Cross-Border Doctor (MSF), at least 60 requests to bring aid to Gaza were rejected only in July.

In March 2025, the Israeli government increasingly curbed by issuing new rules for international aid organizations working with Palestinians.

The rule is contained in the Israeli Law which contains: organizations or aid groups must register to maintain their status in Israel, along with provisions outlining how their petition may be rejected or their registration revoked.

Registration is rejected if Israeli authorities consider the organization to be inconsistent with Israel's democratic value or "promoting a delegitimation campaign" against the country.

"Unfortunately, many aid organizations serve as a cover for hostile and sometimes violent activities," said Israeli Diaspora Minister Amicai Chikli.

"Organizations that have no connection with hostile or violent activities, and have no connection with the boycott movement will be granted permission to operate," added Chikli.

The restraint on freedom of expression makes international aid organizations vulnerable to being accused without evidence by Israeli authorities. As a result, Gaza's starving population lost aid.

"Our mandate is to save lives, but due to registration restrictions, civilians are left without the food, medicine, and protection they desperately need," said director of the CARE charity in the Palestinian territories, Jolien Veldwijk.

Veldwijk said that CARE has not been able to deliver any aid to Gaza since Israel imposed a full blockade on Palestinian territory in March 2025.

Another reason Israel has been spreading for a long time is that Hamas stole international humanitarian aid entering the Gaza Strip. Since May 2025, the Israeli government has unilaterally only used the US-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation to manage food distribution centers in Gaza.
