Tourism Mode Fails, 253 Passport Applicants In Karawang Are Rejected

KARAWANG - The Class I Immigration Office of Non-TPI Karawang Regency, West Java, rejected around 253 applications for passport making from January to July 2025 because the applicant was indicated as a prospective illegal Indonesian migrant worker (PMI).

Head of the Sub-Section of Immigration Travel Documents for Immigration, Karawang Ade Irfan, said that around 253 applicants for making passports were rejected from January to July 2025.

"The majority of the rejected passport applicants will fly to Taiwan, Cambodia and a number of countries in the Middle East. They were rejected during the interview process," said Ade, quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, August 13.

During the interview session, he said, hundreds of applicants tried to trick the officers by giving false information, such as to travel when asked about the purpose of making passports.

"In addition, there are also those who claim to make passports with relatives and their families abroad. So they have the mode of tricking the officers by providing false information," he said.

He said the Immigration officer who conducted the interview smelled strange behavior and the passport applicants did not answer questions in an honest interview.

Therefore, he said, then the local Immigration authorities immediately asked for a letter of recommendation and travel statement if they really wanted to travel.

In addition, the officer also asked for supporting data in the form of family guarantor if he claimed to want to meet family abroad.

"Surely we ask because the officer has the right to ask for supporting data in the form of guarantor who guarantees our citizens when they are abroad, who invites them," said Ade.

However, this, said Ade, was not fulfilled by the applicant, so the Karawang Immigration Office rejected their application for passport making.
