JAKARTA - Chairman of the House of Representatives' Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP) Mardani Ali Sera assessed that President Prabowo Subianto's participation in the 2025 BRICS Summit (KTT) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil is a tangible manifestation of Indonesia's commitment to remain non-stopping. With his debut at BRICS, Mardani assessed that Indonesia is actively appearing as an influential player in the geopolitical and world economic arenas that are increasingly multipolar.
"Indonesia is increasingly asserting that it is free to be active. Of course, we are the nation with Indonesia's debut at BRICS. This also shows that Indonesia is an influential player in the international arena," said Mardani, Thursday, July 10.
According to Mardani, Indonesia's full membership in BRICS is not just an international recognition of Indonesia, but is also an important milestone in strengthening the nation's position in the global economy and politics which is undergoing a transition to a fairer balance.
"Indonesia's full membership in BRICS is a strategic momentum to expand mutually beneficial economic cooperation, build equivalent development alliances," he explained.
"As well as fighting for an international financing system that is more accommodative to national development, increased trade that is mutually beneficial, as well as inclusive technology transfers," added Mardani.
Mardani said, BRICS as a large non-Western economic forum offers great potential to fight for a more inclusive international financing system. He considered this a great opportunity for the progress of the nation.
"Indonesia's full membership must be interpreted as a strategic opportunity to encourage a global agenda that is more relevant to domestic and regional needs," said Mardani.
Mardani also welcomed President Prabowo's policy direction which is committed to expanding friendship networks and strengthening strategic cooperation between nations to support world stability and prosperity.
"Of course, this is in line with the spirit of collective diplomacy and constructive multilateralism, as well as strengthening Indonesia's role as a bridge to dialogue between Global South and the developed world," explained the legislator from the DKI Jakarta electoral district I.
Although faced with various risks to Indonesia's decision to become part of BRICS, Mardani is of the view that Indonesia's steps are right to dare to take a role in one prestigious international organization.
"There must be risks. But life must move forward. Bravo President Prabowo!" he concluded.
As is known, President Prabowo Subianto attended the BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, for two consecutive days on July 6-7. Prabowo's arrival was a historic moment because Indonesia officially became a full member of the international organization consisting of 11 countries.
