A husband and wife were arrested by the Merangin Resort Police (Polres), Jambi, for allegedly distributing methamphetamine to residents and youths in rural areas. They are even willing to exchange motorbikes to get drugs to be resold.
The arrests were made by joint officers from the Merangin Police Narcotics Unit and the Sarolangun Police Station in Sungai Ulak Village, Nalo Tantan District, last weekend. An official statement from the Merangin Police Chief AKBP Roni Syahendra was received on Wednesday, July 9.
The husband and wife are known to have the initials IA alias Ucil (27), a resident of Sungai Ulak Village, and his wife NJ (20), a resident of Tunggang Village, North Lebong District, Bengkulu.
"This disclosure is the result of the development of the previous case handled by the Sarolangun Police against the perpetrator named Erianda Hutahaean," said Roni as quoted by Antara.
From a search of their homes, the police confiscated five packages of methamphetamine weighing 0.499 grams, a small wallet, cigarette paper, and a cellphone.
According to the results of the examination, Ucil obtained the methamphetamine by bartering his motorbike to the perpetrators Erianda Hutahaean and Bella, then the methamphetamine was broken into several small packages to be sold to villagers.
"This couple is a user and dealer. Their target market is the village community, including the youth," Roni added.
Currently, the two suspects have been detained for further legal proceedings. The police are still completing the case files, examining witnesses, and testing the evidence laboratory.
AKBP Roni also emphasized that this disclosure was part of the Merangin Police's commitment to eradicating drugs to its roots.
