JAKARTA - National Police Chief General Pol. Listyo Sigit Prabowo awarded an Extraordinary Promotion (KPLB) posthumously to three personnel of the Katingan Police who died while uncovering a narcotics case.

Head of the Public Relations Division of the National Police, Inspector General Johnny Eddizon Isir in Jakarta, Tuesday, said that the posthumous promotion was effective as of July 5, 2026 based on the Decree of the National Police Chief regarding the Extraordinary Post-mortem Promotion for members of the National Police.

The three personnel who received the award were Ipda (Anumerta) Sumariyanto, Aiptu (Anumerta) Yudhie Perdana Putra, and Briptu (Anumerta) Nopandri Ramadhana.

"The posthumous extraordinary promotion award is a tribute to the state and the Polri institution for the services and dedication of the deceased in carrying out their duties," said Johnny.

He also expressed his condolences for the death of the three personnel of the Katingan Police Narcotics Unit.

"They are true Bhayangkara who have sacrificed their lives and their bodies to protect the community from the dangers of drugs," he said.

Johnny emphasized that the National Police would thoroughly investigate all the series of events that led to the deaths of the three personnel in accordance with the applicable legal provisions.

"The National Police is committed to investigating all of these events professionally. We also ensure that the rights of the families of the fallen personnel are fulfilled as a form of institutional responsibility to members who have devoted themselves until the end of their lives," he said.

The three members of the Katingan Police Narcotics Unit were killed while carrying out an operation to eradicate the circulation of narcotics in Tumbang Kalemei Village, Central Katingan District, Katingan Regency, Central Kalimantan.

The incident began on Wednesday (1/7) after the Katingan Police Narcotics Unit received a report from the community regarding the alleged distribution of methamphetamine in the village. The investigation led to a suspected perpetrator with the initials BIO who was a repeat offender for narcotics cases.

The Satresnarkoba team then moved to the location and arrived early Thursday morning to carry out the arrest. During the enforcement process, officers received resistance using sharp weapons.

Despite having fired warning shots, the attack continued so officers took measured action to protect the safety of personnel.

The situation is increasingly not conducive when the family of the alleged perpetrator and a number of residents allegedly attacked the officers using sharp weapons, homemade firearms, and various dangerous objects.

The Satresnarkoba team then tried to save themselves while asking for help from personnel from the Katingan Police and the Katingan Tengah Police.

During the evacuation process, nine personnel were successfully rescued, while three members of the National Police were killed while on duty.
