JAKARTA - The Kendari City Police (Polresta) arrested five members of a syndicate of thieves, dozens of laptops belonging to the Revenue Agency (Bapenda) of Southeast Sulawesi Province (Sultra) on Sunday 6 July at around 23.00 WITA.

Head of the Public Relations Section of the Kendari Police, Police Inspector One Hariddin, said that those arrested included an employee of the Southeast Sulawesi Bapenda with the initials RN (40). The four are MR (31), RR (23), MS (31), and SP (47).

"The perpetrators were arrested based on reports from officials at the Southeast Sulawesi Bapenda," Hariddin said when contacted in Kendari, Monday, July 7, as reported by Antara.

He said, based on the report, on July 2, 2025, the reporter checked that the laptop in the warehouse owned by Bapenda Sultra was reduced, so it was reported to PPTK to clarify the number of items.

"After being verified, it was concluded that four computers had lost, 18 laptops, and two laptop bags," he said.

Hariddin revealed that after conducting an investigation into the incident, the Buser 77 Team of the Kendari Police Criminal Investigation Unit conducted a search for the suspect for arrest.

"After collecting the evidence, the team then arrested the suspects and brought them to the Kendari Police for questioning," said Hariddin.

From the results of the interrogation, RN admitted to carrying out his action in June 2025 within one week, when the office was on a long holiday for Eid al-Adha.

At that time, RN Bersama MR came to the warehouse of the Southeast Sulawesi Bapenda and took 18 laptops and four computers.

After taking the items belonging to Bapenda Sultra, they then sold seven laptop units of Rp. 3 million per unit and four computers worth Rp. 1.5 million per unit to the perpetrators of RR.

"After that, RR sold the laptop and computer online so MS contacted RR to help sell the laptop and computer," he explained.

In addition, RR and SS also brought one unit of the stolen laptop to another perpetrator with the initials SP, who is the owner of a shop in Kendari.

"The modus operandi carried out by the perpetrators was due to economic pressure because the perpetrators were addicted to online gambling and the collector was tempted to buy these items because the prices were cheap," said Hariddin.
