JAKARTA - United States President Donald Trump will soon send letters to about 200 countries regarding new tariff requirements and trade terms.

"What I will do before 9 (July) is send letters to all of these countries," Trump said in an interview with Fox News broadcast on Sunday (29/6) as reported by ANTARA from Anadolu.

The US has suspended certain trade rates for each country, including the European Union, until July 9.

Trump signaled the letters would establish new trade provisions in the US market.

"We will send a letter and we will say: 'For us it is a great honor, and this is what you have to do to trade in the United States... Good luck to you'," he said.

Trump also expressed hope that the letters could end trade disputes with other countries.

He indicated the US would also evaluate the trade deficit and assess how other countries treat the US before setting specific conditions.

We will see how a country treats us. Are they good? Are they not so good. For some countries, we don't care, we will only set high rates," Trump said.

On Friday (27/6), Trump announced his government was discontinuing negotiations with Canada over the digital service tax imposed on US technology companies.

Trump confirmed the suspension in an interview and said the policy would remain in effect until they lift certain taxes.

He also accused Canada of charging up to 400 percent of American farmers and called the country "very difficult to work with" and "very hard."

"There are things we don't like and things they take advantage of, and hopefully we'll be fine with Canada," Trump said.

Trump reiterated US desire to make Canada the 51st state by saying the country "depending completely" on America.
