JAKARTA - General Chairperson of the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) of the Bandung Congress, Hendry Ch Bangun, and the General Chair of the KLB PWI, Zulmansyah Sekedang, agreed on the composition of the PWI Unity Congress committee.

The agreement was reached through an online meeting mediated by a member of the Press Council, Dahlan Dahi, Wednesday, May 21 evening. During the meeting, Hendry and Dahlan were in Jakarta while Zulmansyah were in Pekanbaru.

"The United Congress committee that we are proposing is senior PWI who have integrity, understand the dynamics in PWI and hopefully trust. It is hoped that SC and OC will be friendly, compact, constitutional, so that the PWI United Congress will remain held according to PD PRT PWI," said Zulmansyah.

Whatever is achieved in the process towards the United Congress, is a step forward. And at the end of course, it is hoped that there will be a common ground so that the congress can be held.

And in this case, I think, sometimes it takes time flexibility in negotiations. The important thing is that the implementation of the congress is still within the agreed time frame," said Hendry.

The formation of the United Congress committee is a follow-up to the Jakarta Agreement, May 16, 2025. Jakarta's agreement contains reconciliation between the two PWI leaders.

Based on the Jakarta Agreement, the conflict will be resolved through the United Congress which will be held in Jakarta no later than August 30, 2025.

Following up on the Jakarta Agreement, Hendry and Zulmansyah formed a congressional committee consisting of the steering committee (SC) and the organizing committee (OC).

Hendry and Zulmansyah each proposed a name for the committee position that had been previously agreed upon.

SC, which manages and presides over the trial at the United Congress, was led by envoy from Hendry and agreed to Zulmansyah. Zulmansyah approved Hendry's proposal, namely Zulkifli Gani Ottoh as Chairman of the SC.

Zulkifli is a senior figure in PWI, former Chairman of PWI South Sulawesi for two terms (2006-2010 and 2010-2015), and currently serves as Secretary of the PWI Honorary Council.

Zulmansyah proposed the name Atal S Depari to accompany Zulkifli as Deputy Chair of SC. Hendry agreed.

Atal is the General Chair of PWI for the period 2018-2023. Atal is also the President of the Confederation of ASEAN Journalist (CAJ) for the period 2022-2024.

The SC members consisted of seven people, three each from Hendry's proposal and three from Zulmansyah's proposal. One member of SC was proposed and agreed upon by both parties.

Hendry and Zulmansyah agreed on the name of Dr Agus Sudibyo, a former member of the Press Council. Agus is considered neutral, good friends with Hendry and Zulmansyah, even though he is included in the management of PWI Zulmansyah.

OC led by Marten Slamet Susanto, who was once the Chair of the PWI Bandung Congress Committee. Marten's name is Zulmansyah's proposal which was also agreed upon by Hendry. King of Parlindungan Pane, proposed by Hendry, accompanied Marten in the position of deputy chairman.

The two opposing PWI parties agreed that the United Congress (OC and SC) committee was expected to start working on June 2, 2025.
