PBVSI Appoints Toiran as Interim Coach for the Men's Volleyball Team

JAKARTA - The All Indonesia Volleyball Association (PBVSI) has decided to appoint Toiran Gonzales Reidel as the interim coach or coach of the Indonesian men's volleyball national team, which will appear at the AVC Men's Cup 2026 in Ahmedabad, India, on June 20-28.

The decision was taken following the completion of the work visa process for the head coach of the national team, Sergio Veloso, so that he could not accompany the Red and White squad ahead of departure to India.

Deputy Chairman of the PBVSI Achievement Development, Loudry Maspaitella, said that the deadline for submitting documents to the Indian Embassy had expired earlier this week, while Veloso's work visa was still in the process of being completed.

"The work visa (Veloso) has not been done, while yesterday Monday was the deadline from the Indian Embassy for all documents to be received," Loudry said in a written statement sent to the media.

This decision was made because PBVSI must immediately determine the steps so that the national team's preparation program continues to run smoothly and is not disturbed ahead of the championship which is followed by a number of Asian volleyball powers.

Toiran has joined the players at the General Kunarto Volleyball Training Center, Sentul, Bogor. The Cuban coach is now leading the final training camp before the team departs for India.

Previously in early May 2026, PBVSI officially introduced Sergio Veloso as the new captain of the Indonesian men's volleyball team. The Brazilian coach has experience in the Southeast Asian region after handling the Philippine men's national team in 2024.

Toiran is not a stranger to national volleyball lovers because he once brought Surabaya Samator to the Proliga title. His coaching career was also marked by success in bringing Jakarta Bhayangkara Presisi to win the Proliga 2024 and 2026.

His latest achievement was achieved last month when he successfully led Jakarta Bhayangkara Presisi to win the Asian title in the tournament which took place in Pontianak.
