BANTEN - Banten Police confirmed that they are dealing seriously with the development of cases of sexual violence against children which previously went viral through podcasts with 'Mawar' speakers (profession names).
The General Criminal Investigation Directorate is now conducting further investigations after the victim's family reported four new incidents involving different reported parties.
Kasubdit IV Renakta Ditreskrimum Polda Banten, Kompol Herlia Hartarani, said that the main report previously submitted by the victim's father, HA, on November 16, 2023, had been processed to court.
"In this case, the suspect MS has been legally processed and sentenced to 12 years in prison," said Herlia in a statement in Serang City, Antara, Wednesday, May 21.
Responding to the narrative in the podcast that said the Banten Police had not followed up on other reports, Herlia emphasized that the information was not true.
He explained that before the podcast was broadcast, the police together with the Regional Technical Implementation Unit (UPTD) for the Protection of Women and Children (PPA) of Banten Province, Tangerang Regency, and the PPA Task Force of Gunung Kaler District had already visited the victim's house.
"We suggest that the victim make a new police report for four other events because the location of the incident is different from the initial report. But the family at that time chose to go viral on the podcast," Herlia said.
After the podcast went viral and caught the public's attention, the victim's family finally reported four additional incidents that allegedly involved four different perpetrators.
Herlia explained that the two reports are now being handled by the Banten Police with the reported FD and IL, while the other two reports have been transferred to the Tangerang Police with the reported SI and PD.
"Investigators will follow up on all these reports with an investigation and investigation process, according to applicable procedures," he said.
He added that the legal process would be carried out transparently to provide legal certainty to the victim and his family.
