SEMARANG - Semarang City Government explained that the Semarang Outer Ring Road (SORR) route, which was originally planned to be built as a ring or arterial route to unravel congestion, would change its scheme to a toll road.

"From the readiness of the budget (SORR), it is quite large, but it has been included on the list of the Ministry of PUPR as a toll road later," said Deputy Mayor of Semarang Iswar Aminuddin as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, May 15.

Despite changing the scheme to toll roads, he said it would still have the same function to reduce the density of traffic flow on the Mangkang and Ngaliyan Semarang routes.

"So, with the toll road, I think this is a very good solution so that starting from west to east it will be resolved with the central government through the toll road. This means that it can reduce (congestion)," he said.

The Vice Mayor of Semarang gave an example of Jalan Prof. Hamka, Ngaliyan, which has been so crowded with large vehicles, especially trucks and prone to accidents due to uphill road contours.

On the other hand, trucks inevitably have to pass through the route to the industrial area in Bukit Semarang Baru (BSB) Semarang because there is no more adequate road access.

"Actually, there is no other solution for the trucks. He has to walk (via Jalan Prof. Hamka), but if there is a SORR he will enter the SORR later," he said.

The SORR project has been initiated for a long time by the Semarang City Government to reduce congestion in the western region which has been filled with large vehicles, such as buses and loaded trucks.

SORR's initial scheme is a ring road or arterial road whose construction will be funded by the central government, while the Semarang City Government plays a role in land acquisition.

In fact, the SORR development plan that was initiated since the Mayor of Semarang was still held by Hendrar Prihadi has also been included in the national strategic project (PSN).
