North Korean leader Kim Jong-un oversaw the country's latest anti-aircraft missile system test on Thursday, state media reported KCNA on Friday.

Leader Kim thanked the so-called research group for the system, for strengthening national defense capabilities.

The shooting test showed the system was "very reliable" and its combat response was "profitful," KCNA reported.

The test conducted by North Korea's Missile Administration is to test the performance of the system it produces, according to the report.

KCNA did not specify where the trial was carried out, but said Leader Kim was accompanied by members of the Central Military Commission of the ruling Korean Workers Party.

Leader Kim said the country's army would be equipped with "other major defense weaponry systems with laudable combat performance," KCNA said, citing The Korea Times.

Seoul and Washington have completed their newest annual joint military exercises known as Freedom Shield on Thursday. They said such exercises were defensive.

On the other hand, Pyongyang has long demanded a halt to joint US-South Korea exercises, and consider them a precursor to an invasion.

In a statement made by KCNA, a spokesman for the North Korean Ministry of Defense criticized the latest joint exercises by South Korea and the United States, calling them "symbrano" and "war games."

All options to detain the US and South Korea are under consideration, including the use of "the most destructive and deadly military means", the statement said, urging the military of the two countries to stop their actions.

Also on Thursday, North Korea's top leader inspected the Nampho Shipyard, reviewing the rebuilding and expansion of the shipyard's production capacity, KCNA reported, quoted from Xinhua.

During the field guidance tour, Kim instructed the country's shipyard industry to accelerate modernization and increase overall shipbuilding capacity, calling it "a major and important issue to develop the country's national economy and strengthen the country's naval forces," the report added.
