JAKARTA - Kim Yo-jong, the younger brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un criticized the United States government under President Donald Trump for increasing the "provocation", saying the condition justifies Pyongyang for enhancing its nuclear defenses, state media KCNA said.
Kim Yo-jong denounced the visit of US carrier USS Carl Vinson to South Korea on Sunday, saying the move was part of a "confrontation policy" against North Korea.
"Once his new administration emerged this year, the US has stepped up political and military provocations against the DPRK, 'continued' the policy of hostile to the previous government," Kim said.
The DPRK stands for North Korea's official name, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
"The hostile policy towards the DPRK currently carried out by the US provides sufficient justification for the DPRK to continue to strengthen its nuclear war prevention," Kim added.
South Korea's Ministry of Defense said in a statement on Tuesday that Kim Yo-jong's comments were nothing more than a hoax to justify the development of its nuclear missile.
"North Korea's nuclear weapons are unacceptable, and the only way for North Korea to survive is to abandon its obsession and misery about nuclear (guns)," the ministry said in a statement.
Earlier, the South Korean Navy said on Sunday the US carrier arrived in the southern port city of Busan as a show of force against North Korea.
