JAKARTA - Deputy Minister (Wamen) for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (P2MI) Christina Aryani highlighted the phenomenon of the 'run away first' trend, which was recently echoed by the public following the excitement of the hashtag on social media.

Christina invites all citizens to reverse negative perceptions of the government from the narrative "go back first" to motivate them to earn income abroad.

"Yesterday we heard that there was a hashtag 'just run away first', so now we change 'work abroad first'. That is one option besides we can also work domestically. So, the opportunity is not limited," said Christina in a fair job at Tamini Square, East Jakarta, Wednesday, February 26.

This year, the Ministry of P2MI is targeting the placement of 425 thousand migrant workers abroad. This number increased from the previous year's 297 thousand people.

"Is this something impossible? No. Because actually in 2024 demand comes from abroad as much as 1.3 million," said Christina.

However, Christina admitted that the central government has not been able to meet this target without the role of the local government and its cross-sectors. Therefore, the implementation of a job fair in Jakarta is one of the collaborative efforts to place work abroad.

"Don't worry about skills first, because there are so many opportunities. Later when you know what, you can decide if you want to participate in training in PPKD, maybe Japanese language training, Korean language, and others," he explained.

Today, Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Rano Karno opened the first job fair during his reign with the Governor of DKI Pramono Anung. This job fair was carried out with a target of 2,500 job seekers, 1,900 jobs, and was attended by 37 companies.

Rano said, this job fair will be the beginning of the opening of employment opportunities as promised during the 2024 Pilkada campaign.

"Jakarta now still needs jobs. The DKI Provincial Government will create 500 thousand jobs," said Rano.

In a promise that was made during the campaign, Pramono-Rano will open a sub-district-level job fair once every three months. However, it turns out that the DKI Jakarta Manpower, Transmigration and Energy Service (TKTE) can hold once a month.

Rano sees that the labor market really needs labor. For this reason, the DKI Provincial Government will make it easier for job seekers by bringing the work market closer to Jakarta residents.

So far, job fair has been carried out every six months and the place is far away, such as at SMESCO. Just going there requires a lot of money. I want to cut it. We made a job fair in the sub-districts because the industrial area is around it," he explained.
