KPK Chair Admits Budget Efficiency Affects Institutional Operations: But We Are Siasati

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Setyo Budiyanto acknowledged the budget efficiency instructed by President Prabowo Subianto's government to influence his institution. One of them is related to official travel.

This was conveyed by Setyo when he was present online as a response to the launch of the 2024 corruption perception index (IPK) by Transparency International (TI) today, Tuesday, February 11. Initially, he explained that the budget efficiency carried out by the anti-corruption commission was only related to official travel.

"Our operations do not (reduce the budget, ed) but for official travel, yes, some have been reduced," said Setyo as shown on YouTube Transparency International Indonesia.

Setyo did not mention the nominal reduction in the budget. "No matter how much it is cut, it must be quite large. Because it affects institutional operations a little more because operations are related to official travel. There is no official travel fee, we will not be able to carry out operations," he said.

Even so, the KPK is still trying to follow the government's instructions. "We are investigating this," said the former Inspector General of the Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan).

One of the tactics carried out, continued Setyo, is by utilizing office facilities as much as possible for training and other activities. In addition, the KPK also adjusts the number of employees in carrying out their duties.

"As long as there are 3-4 activities that can be carried out, there is no need for more than that. So the efficiency is running, the goal is still achieved so that there is no term waste in the KPK," said Setyo.

President Prabowo Subianto ordered ministries and institutions to make efficiency. This is stated in the Presidential Instruction (Inpres) for Expenditures in the Implementation of the State Budget and Regional Budget for Fiscal Year 2025.

The Presidential Instruction has an impact on the work from anywhere (WFA) and work from office (WFO) activities. One of them is implementing work from anywhere or work from anywhere (WFA) and working from office or work from office (WFO) for state civil servants (ASN).
