JAKARTA - Secretary of Commission B of the DKI Jakarta DPRD Muhammad Lefy urged the DKI Provincial Government to intensify the socialization of the defecation stop movement (BAB) carelessly to the public.

Lefy emphasized that the government's socialization to no longer defecate carelessly is needed so that residents in Jakarta know the dangers of defecating are not in place.

"Public awareness is our priority so that our human resources are aware of the increasing environment," said Lefy in his statement, Tuesday, February 4.

According to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), there are still 0.19 percent of households in Jakarta that practice open defecation in 2024.

This figure has increased from 2023, where as many as 0.13 percent of households in Jakarta are still defecating carelessly.

It was recorded that the number of households in DKI Jakarta was 2.8 million. Thus, there are still around 3,000 households that practice open defecation in 2024.

On the one hand, Lefy assessed Perumda Paljaya as a BUMD for managing domestic waste water to coordinate with related agencies such as the Education Office to socialize free defecation stops to school students.

The goal is to increase the knowledge of school children regarding the importance of maintaining cleanliness, including not defecating carelessly so that they can avoid various infectious diseases and can grow optimally.

"Starting from elementary school, it is instilled that this wastewater is an important problem for mutual awareness," said Lefy.

In addition, socialization by involving community leaders and RT-RW devices also needs to be done so that the messages conveyed are more effective.

The DKI Provincial Government and the DKI Jakarta DPRD are preparing a draft regional regulation (Raperda) regarding the management of domestic waste water.

Dalam raperda tersebut ada ancaman pidana kepada warga maupun badan usaha yang menghabiskan waste sembarangan di Jakarta.

Apart from imprisonment, there are also administrative sanctions. This is regulated in Article 56 Paragraph 2 of the regional regulation on domestic wastewater management.

The article states that anyone who disposes of waste carelessly is threatened with imprisonment for a maximum of six months or a maximum fine of IDR 50 million.
