BMKG Warns Of Potential Thunderstorms In A Number Of Areas On January 24

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) warned of the potential for thunderstorms in several parts of Indonesia on Friday, January 24, including Surabaya, Padang, Tanjung Pinang, Jambi, Pangkal Pinang, Banjarmasin, Palangkaraya, Tanjung Selor, Manado, and Merauke. The public is asked to remain vigilant.

BMKG weather forecaster Indah Fitrianti explained in a statement received in Jakarta that several areas would experience significant weather, such as light rain in Medan, moderate rain in Jakarta, Bandung, Makassar, and Jayapura, as well as thunderstorms in Surabaya.

"The potential for light rain is also expected to occur in Serang and Yogyakarta, while moderate rain has the potential to occur in Jakarta, Bandung and Semarang," said Indah.

In Sumatra, light rain is expected to occur in Banda Aceh, Medan, Pekanbaru, Bengkulu, and Bandar Lampung, while moderate rain is expected to occur in Palembang.

For the areas of Bali and Nusa Tenggara, light rain has the potential to occur in Mataram and Kupang, while moderate rain has the potential to occur in Denpasar.

"On the island of Kalimantan, the potential for light rain will occur in Pontianak and Samarinda," added Indah.

Meanwhile, for the Sulawesi region, there is the potential for light rain in Palu and Kendari, as well as moderate rain in Makassar, Mamuju, and Gorontalo.

In eastern Indonesia, Indah also mentioned the potential for light rain in Ambon, Ternate, Manokwari, and Jayawijaya, with the potential for moderate rain in Sorong, Nabire, and Jayapura.
