Ahok's Mother And Ahok's Adoptive Mother: Two Figures Who Often Escape The Story

JAKARTA - It is not wrong to know Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (BTP) aka Ahok through his mother, a figure who is often referred to as the most meritorious woman in Ahok's life. Who would have thought the former Governor of Dki Jakarta had two mothers. In fact, Ahok's mother and Ahok's adoptive mother each have different backgrounds.

Ahok's mother didn't approve of her son becoming a politician

Quoting the Wikipedia page, Ahok's biological mother is Buniarti Ningsih aka Boen Nen Tjauw. He is married to Alm. Indra Tjahaja Purnama (Tjoeng Kiem Nam). In addition to Ahok, he had other children, Fifi Lety Indra, Harry Basuki, and Basu Panca Fransetio who died as teenagers. His family is of Chinese-Indonesian descent from the Hakka (Kejia) tribe.

Ahok's success was beyond conjecture, even beyond his mother's guess. In his confession, he had expressed his disapproval if the child plunged into politics.

"In fact, I did not agree that Ahok participated in politics," Buniarti Ningsih said, quoted from ahok.org website.

Buniarti's disapproval is not without cause. He claimed to still keep the wounds because of the treatment of racism that occurred in the reform period. In order to avoid that, he expects Ahok to stay away from politics. Instead he can be an engineer or an entrepreneur.

Ahok's Adoptive Mother and BTP's Past

The death of Mrs. Hajjah Misribu binti Acca turned out to be quite moving. To coincide with polling day, the adoptive mother asked Ahok's adoptive brother, Haji Analta, to be escorted to the polling station. With his condition weak he continued to support his son to become governor

"From the polling station, he went straight to the hospital, for further treatment in the ICU," Ahok said.

Ahok remembers the adoptive mother's message that indirectly led him to the success he is today.

"I'm not willing to die, before you become governor. My son, be the governor who served the little people," Ahok recalled.

Hajjah Misribu binti Acca's mother died on October 16, 2014, just after Jokowi served as President and Ahok became Governor of DKI Jakarta.
