JAKARTA - The Indonesian National Police (Polri) has allocated a budget of approximately Rp. 11 billion to build 27 official housing units (Rumdis) members of the Maybrat Police, Southwest Papua.

West Papua Deputy Police Chief Brigadier General Alfred Papare in Kumurek Friday said the budget was used for the construction of public facilities of more than Rp700 million, planning of more than Rp500 million, construction of Rp10 billion and supervision of Rp500 million.

The official houses to be built consist of type 38 as many as 15 units, type 45 as many as 8 units, and type 54 as many as 4 units.

"The construction of official houses is a form of the National Police's serious commitment to paying attention to members in terms of providing facilities to support service tasks to the community," Alfred Papare quoted Antara as saying.

Alfred asked the ranks of the Maybrat Police to improve their performance and it is hoped that they will become role models for the local community.

"As well as avoiding counterproductive actions and actions and contrary to the principles of excellent service," he said.

The native Papuan son who once served as Irwasda Polda Papua also reminded the ranks of the Maybrat Police to work quickly and accurately in response to every dynamic that occurs in the field.

"The public is increasingly critical in criticizing the performance of the National Police, showing a sense of belonging from the community to the National Police institution," said the graduate of the 1995 Police Academy who also served as the Jayapura Police Chief and the Raja Ampat Police Chief.

Alfred said the number of Rumdis that was built was not enough to accommodate more than 300 personnel from the Maybrat Police.

He hopes that there will be support from the local district government to build several more units so that the Maybrat Police personnel will be more motivated and comfortable carrying out their duties in the area.

Head of the Maybrat Education Office, Bambu, said that the local district government fully supports the establishment of the Maybrat Police official residence in order to create security stability in the area.

Maybrat Regency itself is known as an area prone to security disturbances by the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) in the Southwest Papua region, where during the period 2021 to 2023 there were several acts of violence against officers and civilians.
