Preventing Floods In West Aceh, BPBD Dredging Garbage And Shipwrecks On The Lueng Aneuk Ayee River

WEST ACEH - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of West Aceh deployed heavy excavators to clean the drainage and Lueng Aneuk Ayee small river in Meulaboh.

"The deployment of heavy equipment follows the order of the Regent of West Aceh so that BPBDs immediately deal with flooding in urban areas," said Head of West Aceh BPBD DR Mukhtaruddin in Meulaboh, West Aceh, Antara, Sunday, October 3.

He said the heavy equipment imported in the central area of Meulaboh Market was an effort to lift piles of garbage including the wrecks of fishing boats, which had been in the river. The presence of this pile is suspected to be the cause of the flood.

"Alhamdulillah, after cleaning, the puddles in urban areas gradually receded and no longer inundated roads and residential areas," said Mukhtaruddin.

In addition, he said, his party also deployed heavy equipment to the mouth of the river in the Ujong Kalak Village area of Meulaboh, to dredge the estuary to expedite the discharge of water into the high seas.

"Currently conditions are normal, there is no flooding in urban centers including residents' houses," Mukhtaruddin added.

Nevertheless, the West Aceh BPBD appealed to the public to continue to increase their vigilance, especially in the current rainy season.

He also appealed to residents not to throw garbage in any place to avoid puddles of water when it rains.
