Fire In The Borobudur Area, West Papua, Scorches Hundreds Of Houses, No Casualties
WEST PAPUA - Hundreds of houses were burned to the ground in the Borobudur area, Padarni Village, West Manokwari District, Manokwari Regency, West Papua, Thursday, September 30 this afternoon.
Reports from the police and the National SAR Agency team, there were no casualties. Thousands of residents in this fishing complex have fled to safer locations.
The Head of the Manokwari Police, Dadang K Winjaya, stated that the fire incident in the Padarni Manokwari Barat village had scorched hundreds of houses.
"Initial reports have no casualties, only material losses are still being calculated," he said as quoted by Antara.
Police are still collecting information and evidence to determine the source of the fire from one of the residents' houses at the scene. "The cause of the fire is still being investigated because the source of the fire came from a house in a densely populated area," he said.

The fire that appeared at around 10.00 a.m. local time was only successfully extinguished by the officers after 3 hours of struggling, at 13.15 p.m. The fire brigade team had difficulty reaching the hotspots in dense and floating settlements on the shores of this beach.
"The fire was successfully extinguished at 13.15 p.m. with the help of residents along with two fire engines from the West Papua Police Mobile Brigade and two Manokwari government fire engines," he said.
