5-Year-Old Boy Abused By Stepmother Fears And Faces The Wall, KPAI Responds

JAKARTA - The case of violence and abuse against children in Ciracas Sub-district, East Jakarta, which was allegedly carried out by the victim's stepmother has received attention from the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI).

According to the Head of the Supervision, Monitoring and Evaluation Division of the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI), Jasra Putra, his party regretted the alleged incident of violence perpetrated by the victim's parents. Parents should be the first and foremost protectors of children in the fulfillment and protection of children's rights.

"We ask law enforcement officials to give maximum punishment to the perpetrators because the perpetrators are the closest people to the children", he told VOI, Monday, September 27.

"Regarding the case that occurred in Ciracas, it is suspected that the perpetrator was the stepmother who should have protected the child", he said.

This parenting knowledge is very important for parents to know and understand the development of children according to their age.

If this parenting goes well, he continued, then affection, closeness, attachment, and protection can be carried out properly.

"In this incident, the mother who is taking care of her has not been able to realize it, so she becomes a perpetrator of violence, which should not have happened", he said.

Meanwhile, to restore the condition of children who are victims of alleged violence, assistance from the Office of Women's Empowerment and Protection must be carried out. To carry out treatment and psychological assistance for children to complete.

"Hopefully, with complete assistance, it is hoped that the children will be happy again and their growth will go well", he said.

As previously reported, a 5-year-old child became a victim of abuse by her stepmother in Munjul, Ciracas, East Jakarta. BM, the initials, reported his wife to the East Jakarta Police because she did not accept seeing his daughter's condition full of wounds.

BM told reporters that his daughter had injuries to her nose, right hand, and left hand. Even BM said, there was a serious wound on the cheek.

"Some were pinched on the cheek, some were hit with a broom handle", said BM.

BM does not know since when the persecution took place.

"It's been a while, but I just found out. My daughter is usually cheerful, right. Suddenly she just sits still, staring at the wall", explained BM.

The case of child abuse is handled by the East Jakarta Police.
