Xhaka Had To Postpone His 99th Match For The Swiss National Team After Being Positive For COVID-19

JAKARTA - Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka tested positive for COVID-19 while playing for the Swiss national team during the international break.

Quoted by Antara from Sky Sports, Thursday, Xhaka was diagnosed with COVID-19 on Wednesday morning after being tested positive along with symptoms.

This made him have to miss the friendly match between Switzerland and Greece which was held on Wednesday night at local time in Basel, Switzerland.

Furthermore, staff from the Swiss national team were also quarantined but no further action because no one had close contact with Xhaka.

Xhaka is further planned to undergo another PCR test on Thursday to determine further conditions.

Indeed, this match against Greece will be Xhaka's 99th match at the international level with the Swiss national team.

The Swiss national team is scheduled to play Italy on Sunday in Basel in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers for the European zone Group C.

Xhaka is also a doubt to feature at Arsenal in the Premier League match on Saturday (11/9) against Norwich City.

Apart from being positive for COVID-19, Xhaka is also serving a ban from playing in the English Premier League due to getting a straight red card when Arsenal lost to Manchester City 0-5 on Saturday, August 28.
