Ahead Of Italy Vs Bulgaria, Mancini Is Optimistic That The Azzurri Can Do Better Than Euro 2020
JAKARTA - Roberto Mancini stressed that Italy should not only be at the same level as those who won the Euro 2020 trophy. However, it must be even better.
The Gli Azzurri will host Bulgaria in their 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign at the Stadio Artemio Franchi on Thursday evening. And since being handled by Mancini, this team is unbeaten in 34 matches.
"I want to thank the fans who supported us throughout the Euros. We have to do what we know tomorrow and avoid distractions because a lot is at stake", the coach said in his press conference, reported by Football Italia.
"Tomorrow's team (today, red) will not look much different from the team that plays the Euro 2020 Final against England. We hoped that this moment could be the start of an entire era of success for the Azzurri, but then we believed it for three years. It's not just about winning but trying to do it in a different way from the past. The World Cup is only 13-14 months away and we have to continue like this".

Mancini's Italy performed brilliantly over the summer, but there are fears now that opponents will try to countermeasures and neutralize their strengths.
"There may be variations on the theme from game to game, but the important thing is that we want to take the initiative and have an attacking mentality. Over the last three years, we scored a lot of goals and conceded very few, so balance is fundamental.
“Our team has achieved something great, but it can get even better and that success should spur us on to do more. You can't win all the time, but we aim to continue to enjoy our football because you give your best when you do something you love".
There have been some changes from the Euro squad, as Roma attacking midfielder Zaniolo returns from injury.
"His style of play is very physical, so he has to be in good shape to be really effective. I hope he can take advantage of his incredible qualities".
