Mimika Papua Shocked, Magnitude 4.5 Earthquake Happened Last Night
JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) informed that a magnitude 4.5 earthquake occurred in Mimika, Papua, Friday (27/8), at 23.19 western Indonesia time. This earthquake did not cause a tsunami.
According to the latest earthquake information provided by BMKG, the earthquake occurred at a depth of 21 km, at coordinates 4.65 South Latitude - 137.01 East Longitude. The epicenter of the earthquake was on land, 58 km northeast of Mimika, Papua.
The earthquake can be felt in Timika, Papua with a scale of III Modified Mercalli Intensity (MMI) which means that the vibration is felt real in the house. There was a vibration as if a truck had passed.
