DaBaby Apologizes After His Controversial Comment About AIDS

JAKARTA - Rapper DaBaby officially apologized through his Instagram account regarding the controversial statement he made.

Last week, DaBaby was highlighted after performing at Miami's Rolling Loud festival where he said, "If you don't come with HIV, AIDS, or another sexually transmitted disease that kills you within two to three weeks, pick up the phone".

The statement drew criticism from fellow musicians including Elton John and Dua Lipa who duet with him on the song Levitating. “I was taken aback by DaBaby's comments. I didn't know this was the person I worked with".

Elton John who founded the Elton John AIDS Foundation said, “We have to stop the stigma about AIDS and not spread it. As fellow musicians, this is our job”.

DaBaby's apology released Monday came after his name was removed from the line-up of three major festivals. With a black background post, he apologized to those who were offended by his comments.

“I appreciate the many people who come in well, contact me and provide guidance and education, and advice. This is what I want and accept”.

"I apologize for the misinformation comments about HIV/AIDS and I know education is important", he said.

Last week, he dismissed messages from netizens asking him to apologize immediately. Later, his name was removed from the lineup of Day N Vegas, Governors Ball, and Lollapalooza.
