National Police Chief: Merdeka Vaccine, Herd Immunity Acceleration Strategy

JAKARTA - National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo said that the Free Vaccination program is one of the strategies to accelerate the formation of herd immunity in Indonesia, especially Jakarta.

In fact, this program is also referred to as a way to celebrate Indonesia's Independence Day which will fall on 17 August.

"This Merdeka Vaccination Program is a vaccination strategy program that will be implemented to celebrate our Independence Day on August 17," said Sigit at the Metro Jaya Police, Sunday, August 1.

"To achieve herd immunity, to catch up the rest of the people who have not been vaccinated," Sigit continued.

The acceleration of the formation of herd immunity, continued Sigit, is very important to get through the COVID-19 pandemic. This is because public health is the main factor to re-boost the country's economy which had fallen.

Moreover, for now, vaccination has become one of the requirements imposed in several areas that fall into the level 4 category.

"Because of the condition that economic growth can resume, health is a priority so that the economy can develop, because the two cannot be separated. But health is certainly one of the factors or absolute requirements for community activities to run," said Sigit.

Therefore, Sigit appealed to the entire community to follow the vaccination program that was formed. In addition, the public is also asked to cooperate with all parties so that the COVID-19 pandemic period ends soon.

"So to be able to lower the level, cooperation is needed between the community, the apparatus who are members of it to jointly maintain the progress so that the numbers that are usually seen as a condition for lowering the level can actually be realized. So that the economic burden on the community can be reduced," said Sigit.
