COVID-19 Cases In West Papua Soar, Activities Are Restricted

JAKARTA - The West Papua COVID-19 Task Force stated that there were 120 positive cases of COVID-19 as of Monday, June 28. So that a number of regions in the province began to implement activity restrictions with the largest number occurring in Manokwari Regency.

"Positive cases of COVID-19 in West Papua rose to 10.440 people or 20.7 percent of which the highest was in Manokwari Regency with 446 active cases", said Spokesperson for the West Papua COVID-19 Task Force Dr. Arnold Tiniap in Manokwari, reported by Antara, Tuesday, June 29.

He explained that the 120 positive cases came from Manokwari Regency 112 people, Fakfak 5 people, Bintuni Bay 1 person, Sorong City 1 person, and South Manokwari Regency 1 person.

Meanwhile, 2 patients who died from COVID-19 on Sunday, June 27 and Monday, came from Teluk Bintuni Regency and 1 person from Manokwari Regency.

"Cases of patients dying from COVID-19 in West Papua reached 185 people or 1.8 percent of the 10.440 total positive cases in this province", he said.

He said that patients who recovered from COVID-19 in West Papua added 15 people from the city of Sorong 7 people, Fakfak 6 people, and Kaimana 2 people.

"The total number of recovered patients from COVID-19 in West Papua is 9.376 people, down to 89.8 percent", said Arnold Tiniap.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Regent of Teluk Bintuni Regency, Matret Kokop, stated that with the spike in cases at the end of June, the Government of Teluk Bintuni Regency had issued Circular (SE) Number: 045/115/Wabup-TB/2021 concerning the Implementation of Restrictions on Community Activities (PKKM) 30 June to 13 July 2021.

The SE said that the time for entry and exit by land in the area was limited.

"During PPKM, access in and out of Bintuni Bay by land is only open from 07.00 a.m. to 21.00 p.m. local time. Outside this set time, land access remains closed", said Matret Kokop.
