Observer: State Debt Of IDR 5,600 Trillion, Ends 3 Period Presidential Discourse, People Don't Need It

JAKARTA - A political observer from Indonesia's Al Azhar University, Ujang Komarudin, believes that the discourse to support Joko Widodo's return to the 2024 presidential election should be stopped. This is because the people do not need a three-term president.

"This has to end, the people don't need a three-term president. Because after all our foreign debt has reached IDR 5,600 trillion, and also SOE debt is extraordinary, starting from Garuda, PLN, and so on. Where are all debts going to come from?", said Ujang to VOI, Tuesday, June 22.

Then, continued Ujang, the handling of COVID-19 was also unusually bad. The public is also disappointed with the weakening of the KPK, the existence of the Omnibus Law, and other things.

"So the people don't need it (three-term president, ed). It's only for the benefit of the Jokowi group and the oligarchs, to perpetuate power. The people only need work and food", he said.

Moreover, the constitution clearly mandates Article 7 of the 1945 Constitution. It states that the President and Vice President hold office for five years, and after that, they can be re-elected in the same office, only for one term.

"So 2 periods are enough. It must end. The constitution is the result of the struggle for reform of the Indonesian people", explained Ujang.

As for the emergence of volunteers supporting Jokowi for 3 periods, Ujang assessed that it did not need to be extended. Because it only causes noise in the midst of the nation's resistance against the COVID-19 pandemic.

"In the midst of COVID-19 which has hit more than 2 million people, at a time when people are currently falling one by one because of COVID-19, problems like that should be avoided first. Do not let the lust for power overpower or deny the suffering of the Indonesian people at this time", concluded Ujang.
