PDIP Politician: Surprisingly The Handling Of COVID-19 In DKI, West Java And Central Java Is Slowing Down, But Governor Electability Is Increasing

JAKARTA - Senior politician Said Abdullah, admitted that he is saddened by the trend of the number of COVID-19 spreads which tend to increase in DKI Jakarta, Central Java, and West Java, every day.

According to the chairman of the DPR Budget Agency, if these three regions are not serious about fighting COVID-19, then the impact will be very significant in disrupting the national economic recovery. Considering that these three provinces contribute greatly as a contributor to 39 percent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

"Surprisingly, the three governors have high electability of the presidential candidate market. Even though the performance of handling COVID and economic recovery is slow, even the economic contraction is below the national figure," He said in Jakarta, Wednesday, June 16.

He also asked the three regional heads to focus more on efforts to deal with COVID-19.

"This COVID-19 problem is very serious. And our current condition is an emergency," he stressed.

In addition, he assessed that the recent high number of COVID-19 cases showed that the government's policy in breaking the chain of spreading this deadly virus was ineffective. Mainly, in the application of health protocols.

Therefore, Said asked the government to deploy law enforcement officers (APH), both from the TNI and Polri, to ensure that the public obeys the prokes. This is in accordance with the recommendation from the Banggar DPR RI, which from the beginning suggested that the handling of COVID-19 should not only rely on public awareness, but also involve APH.

"What is needed now is how to handle COVID-19 so that it is complete. So it must fully involve law enforcement officers," said Said.

According to him, the presence of the TNI-Polri in the community is not meant to scare the people. However, this effort is in order to help the community to be disciplined in enforcing the prokes.

Usually, Said said, people's compliance will be formed automatically if they see law enforcement officers complete with their uniforms.

He believes that the public will think twice about violating the prokes when dealing with the authorities. This pattern will slowly help shape the level of public awareness naturally.

"So I propose to send down all law enforcement officers in all regions. Now, only then will the effectiveness of handling COVID-19 be seen," he said.
