Death Toll Reaches 845 People, Civilians Take Up Arms Against Myanmar's Military Militer

JAKARTA - Civil resistance groups founded by Myanmar residents have begun to fight. Together with the armed ethnic groups, they are fighting the military regime in various areas, because the regime's violence continues in Myanmar.

Data from the Association for Legal Aid for Political Prisoners (AAPP) on Thursday, June 3, shows that there have been at least 845 people since the military carried out the coup on February 1, or now entering its fourth month. Meanwhile, 4.509 people are still being detained by the Myanmar military regime.

Most recently, local anti-junta resistance groups armed with improvised explosive devices and hunting rifles attacked Myanmar police and military vehicles near Wah Nyo Hill, Kanbalu, Sagaing region last Wednesday. One of the four policemen who were attacked was killed, while another was injured

"They attacked a police car on the way from Wah Nyo to the city. I heard that they used hand-made mines and traditional weapons. They said a sub-inspector was shot in the head and a policeman was shot in the shoulder", a local resident said cited from Myanmar Now, June 4th.

"Sub-inspector police Soe Kyaw Zin Myint died of his injuries on Thursday morning. His body is being kept in the religious hall of the Kanbalu Township Police station and will be sent to his hometown of Mohnyin in Kachin State", the resident added.

A villager living near the site of the attack said the insurgents withdrew after police reinforcements arrived from Kanbalu about an hour later.

"A mine exploded and then a policeman fired his gun into the forest. But the car ran away and the police tried to shoot it down", the resident said.

"The guerrillas left their weapons and fled in the forest when the soldiers started to search the forest. The weapons left were handmade", the resident continued.

After seizing eight firearms, the soldiers stopped their pursuit, the villager said, adding that the guns were then shown to residents of the nearby villages of Sabae Nanttha and Nammalun, for questioning as to who owned them.

The Myanmar military regime forces also tightened security in Kanbalu. Including imposing a thorough inspection at the entrance and exit gates of the city, on all passers-by.
