The House Of Representatives Proposes The 2024 Elections To Be Held March 6
JAKARTA - Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) proposed that the Legislative Election (Pileg) and the Presidential Election (Pilpres) be held on March 6, 2024. The General Elections Commission (KPU) previously planned that the general election be pushed forward in February.
"If we judge that the ideal is to be carried out in early March, March 6, yes. Initially the KPU proposed February 14 or March 6, Commission II of the DPR is more likely to be on March 6", said Chairman of Commission II of the DPR RI Ahmad Doli Kurnia at the DPR building, Jakarta, Thursday, June 3.
He explained that the Indonesian KPU proposed two dates for the 2024 Pilleg and Presidential Elections, namely February 14 and March 6. Previously, in a Joint Working Team meeting consisting of Commission II of the DPR, the Ministry of Home Affairs, KPU, Bawaslu, and Election Organizing Honorary Council (DKPP) some time ago, the KPU proposed the implementation of the 2024 General Election on February 21.
"Actually, what's important is that it needs to be withdrawn if all this time is in February, it's because the Regional Head Elections (Pilkada) is held in the same year. We want to avoid too deep a wedge between Pileg, Pilpres, and Pilkada", he explained.
Therefore, the Golkar Party politician hopes that there will be sufficient space for the preparation of the Pilkada because the principle is no longer pushed forward on April 21, 2024.

In addition, Doli also considered it necessary to reconsider if the implementation of the 2024 General Election at the beginning of the year would make it difficult to disburse state (APBN) and regional (APBD) funds. "Therefore, we consider the ideal time to be in early March 2024", he said.
According to him, the 2024 election should not be held in April or at the beginning of the year because it will make it difficult to disburse election funding. He estimates that the disbursement of funding will be around 1-1.5 months from the start of the year so that the 2024 General Election in March is the right step.
"The Joint Working Team will decide whether the change in the timing of the 2024 General Election needs to be regulated only by KPU Regulation (PKPU) or it is necessary to make a Government Regulation in Lieu of Law (Perppu)", concluded Doli.
