Couple Arrested In A Rented House For Selling Drugs, Threatened With 4 Years In Prison

JAKARTA - Tulungagung Resort Police, East Java, arrested a couple who were caught selling methamphetamine in the South Tulungagung area.

Bandung Police Chief, Police Commissioner Adjutant Alpho Gohan explained, the arrests were made at a boarding house located in Wateskroyo Village, Besuki District on Monday, May 31.

"From the hands of these two suspects, the officers managed to secure nine pockets of crystal methamphetamine with a value of tens of millions of rupiah," said Alpho Gohan as quoted by Antara, Friday, May 4.

The two perpetrators were identified as Nurul (36) and Yunas (27). They are registered as residents of Besuki District, but then live in the city area (Kedungwaru District) and live together like a married couple.

Both of them are residents of Besuki District but live in Kedungwaru and their status is not legally married, their work is also unclear," said Alpo.

Initially, they arrested Nurul. From the inspections carried out, it eventually developed into a boarding house in the Winong Village area, Kedungwaru District.

During the raid on the boarding house, it was found that the male suspect, Yunas, was intoxicated with methamphetamine.

"When we arrived, the male suspect was using methamphetamine, then this woman was also tested positive for methamphetamine," he explained.

Both of them were immediately taken to the Bandung Sector Police Headquarters to undergo an examination and be held accountable for their actions.

From the couple's hands, officers secured nine bags of methamphetamine weighing 0.5 grams each.

According to both Nurul and Yunaz, the couple sold IDR 1.2 million per package.

The police also secured account books, ATMs, and Rp. 3 million which was allegedly the result of selling methamphetamine. Then there are digital scales, cell phones, and some other evidence.

"One pocket is about 0.5 grams, the price is Rp. 1.2 million," he said.

According to Alpo, the two suspects are categorized as dealers and users. From one of the evidences that were secured, a record of the sale of illicit goods was found.

"We have found sales records so far to anyone, completely recorded by the suspect," he said.

For their actions, the two suspects were charged with Article 114 paragraph (1) Subsidiary to Article 112 paragraph (1) of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics, with a minimum penalty of four years in prison.
