Becoming Barca Coach At Camp Nou Turns Out Hansi Flick's Real Dream

JAKARTA - Barcelona coach Hansi Flick is very happy with the Katalan team's first appearance at Camp Nou Stadium, when Barca won 4-0 over Athletic Bilbao in the Spanish League on Sunday.

Flick has been Barca coach since May 2024, but the Katalan team only returned to Camp Nou on Sunday because the legendary stadium has been renovated since June last year.

Years ago I came to the old Spotify Camp Nou and thought that one day I wanted to be Barca coach. Today I'm here, and it's a dream come true. It feels great," Flick said, quoted from ANTARA's page on Sunday.

In the match against Athletic, Barca opened the scoring through Robert Lewandoswki's goal in the fourth minute. Ferran Torres then contributed two goals in the 45+3 and 90 minutes, and Fermin Lopez scored one goal in the 48th minute.

The joy of returning to Camp Nou, according to Flick, was also felt by fans.

"For everyone this is a very special game, for us as a team and for the supporters. It feels great. I'm very happy: we won 4'0 on the opening day of the new stadium with all the fans supporting us, and we got three points," said the German coach.

But Flick didn't want to be lulled by the convincing victory.

"I'm very happy to be home, but we have to step one step at a time. We're excited to see how the team is growing this season now that we're back," said Flick.

Flick also gave his own praise to aging striker Lewandowski.

Over the past 10 years he has been one of the best number nine strikers in football. His age doesn't hinder him: he's physically prime, he's hungry for goals, and that's important. For him scoring the first goal at Spotify Camp Nou, the new one is something really special," Flick said.

Victory over Athletic brought Barca to the top of the Spanish League standings. They have the same collection of points as Real Madrid, which is 31 points, but Barca are ahead on goal difference over the capital team.
