Professor Ma'mun: Central Higher Education The Birth Of Research And Innovation

JAKARTA - Chancellor of Muhammadiyah University Jakarta (UMJ), Prof. Dr. Ma'mun Murod, emphasized his campus commitment to continue to provide education that has an impact and is sustainable.

This affirmation was conveyed in the UMJ Senate Open Session at the 2025 Period II Graduation which also became a series of UMJ's 70th Anniversary. The event was held at the KH Ahmad Azhar Bashir Auditorium, Cendekia Building, Saturday (22 23 November 2025).

A total of 1,558 graduates were officially inaugurated, consisting of 13 doctorates, 51 masters, 8 specialists, and 82 undergraduates. This amount is proof of the consistency of the UMJ in printing quality and competitive human resources.

In his speech, Prof. Ma'mun emphasized that universities are centers for the birth of research and innovation that are relevant to the community.

"UMJ has so far consistently contributed to education, research, and community service that supports the Sustainable Development Goals Agenda (SDGs)," he said.

He added that UMJ will continue to strengthen institutional governance to produce superior humans in the midst of global dynamics.

Global crisis in the 17 SDGs agenda includes four pillars: social, economic, environmental, and legal and governance. The government through President Prabowo has compiled a National Priority Agenda in ASTA Cita to answer these challenges," he said.

Prof. Ma'mun emphasized that UMJ is ready to take on a role.

"We are committed to providing quality education, environmentally friendly campuses, and talents that have a real impact on the nation," he said.

Meanwhile, the Director of Institutions of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia, Prof. Dr. Mukhamad Najib, said that UMJ graduates have the privilege of being an educated group.

"This is lucky for all of my friends because they get privileges as an elite citizen," he said.

Najib also highlighted the quality of UMJs that have won superior accreditation.

"Of the more than 4,400 universities in Indonesia, less than five percent have superior accreditation, and UMJ is one of them," he said.

He added that Muhammadiyah universities have long played a major role in preparing skilled workers.

"The state gives high appreciation to the University of Muhammadiyah Jakarta, which since the time of the revolution has given birth to many high-achieving workers," he said.

Najib emphasized the importance of transformation of campuses into innovation centers.

In addition to teaching and learning places, campuses must be a research center. Lecturers and students are required to actively conduct research as part of a research university," he concluded.
