Gus Mus And Father Magnis Upload Trace Record, Objection To Hero Title For Suharto

JAKARTA - The pros and cons emerged in the midst of Presidential Government's plan Prabowo Subianto to give the title of national hero to the 2nd President of the Republic of Indonesia, Suharto.

Mustasyar Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) Executive Board KH Ahmad Mustofa Bisri or familiarly called Gus Mus has his own views on the plan. Gus Mus said he refused.

"I totally disagree that Suharto is made a National Hero," said Gus Mus at his residence in Rembang, Central Java, quoted from NU Online, Friday, November 7.

Gus Mus said that when Suharto led many Islamic boarding school clerics and Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) were treated unfairly.

KH Adib Bisri also experienced disproportionate attitudes. Gus Mus said that his younger brother when the New Order experienced strong pressure to enter certain political parties which were finally rejected by Adib Bisri.

"Many kiai are put in wells, NU nameplates should not be installed, many of which are ordered to be ganged up by the regents," he said.

Rais Aam PBNU 2014-2015 emphasized that NU residents who pushed to approve the plan to embed the title of national hero against Suharto did not understand Indonesia's history.

"NU people if someone participates in proposing it means they don't understand history," said Gus Mus.

Suharto's objection to becoming a national hero also came from Professor of Philosophy at Driyarkara High School (STF), Franz Magnis Suseno or Father Magnis.

Father Magnis admitted that Suharto could not be denied as contributing to the development during the political crisis and the economy of the transition of democracy led to Pancasila democracy.

However, he said, the background in human rights violations and corruption is the basis for unusually someone holding the title of national hero.

"From a national hero, he is demanded more, he is required that he does not do things that clearly violate ethics and may also be evil," said Father Magnis during a press conference at the YLBHI Building, Jakarta, quoted from YouTube YLBHI.

"From a national hero, it is hoped that he will unconditionally advance the nation, and will not benefit himself. For me this is a very strong reason, that Suharto should not be made a national hero," he continued.
