Moeldoko: Indonesia's Attitude Towards Palestine Never Changes

JAKARTA - Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko insists Indonesia's attitude towards Palestine has not changed since long ago until now.

"Basically Indonesia's attitude towards Palestine has never changed," Moeldoko said in a video watched in Jakarta, as reported by Antara, Thursday, May 20.

He said in the context of the recently developed situation, Indonesia has denounced the violence that is an escalation of attacks by Israel that killed many victims including children and women in Palestine.

"Also badly damaged were the Associated Press news agency and Al Jazeera, which is a violation of international journalistic principles. Indonesia is also very concerned about the emergence of a situation where a humanitarian crisis is taking place there. For that once again Indonesia's attitude strongly denounced," Moeldoko said.

Moeldoko said President Joko Widodo and Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi have so far communicated with the leaders of various countries, in order to help resolve the conflict in Palestine.

In addition to being able to end the violence so that the death toll does not increase and also bring justice to the Palestinian people.

The former TNI commander reminded the Indonesian people to understand that there are domestic problems occurring in the region.

According to him, it is very strange if the Indonesian nation runs out of energy as it is today by conducting an unproductive debate that is not really well understood what is happening there.

"For that, I ask all to stop everything (debate). Do not let the situation between the Palestinians and Israel cause divisions among our own people instead," he explained.

Moeldoko insists that Indonesians do really care. He said the Indonesian nation has the same attitude, namely empathy, for what is happening in Palestine.

Therefore, he said, the Indonesian nation should not be dragged into the situation that ultimately causes divisions among the nation's children.
