BKSAP DPR Encourages The Indonesian Government To Lead Global Efforts To Stop Israel Genocide In Gaza
JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of the BKSAP DPR RI, Irine Yusiana Roba Putri, encouraged the Indonesian government to lead global efforts to stop genocide in Gaza, Palestine, following the increasingly brutal Israeli military aggression in the city. Irine emphasized that the attack that killed tens of thousands of Palestinian civilians was a global humanitarian tragedy that could not be tolerated.
"This is not just an armed conflict, but a blatant violation of universal humanitarian principles and international humanitarian law. Systematic attacks on civilians, hospitals, evacuation facilities, and safe zones are tangible forms of war crimes and genocide that must be stopped immediately," Irine told reporters, Friday, September 19.
Irine also called on the Government of Indonesia to increase real diplomatic pressure on Israel and its allies. According to him, Indonesia is not enough to voice criticism, but must lead the consolidation of Asian, African and Islamic countries to pressure the United Nations (UN) to take firm steps, including a permanent ceasefire and an official investigation into war crimes.
"Our diplomacy must advance to class from a mere moral statement to a global political action. Indonesia needs to encourage the International Criminal Court (ICC) to investigate Israel's war crimes, as well as garner international support to impose political and economic sanctions on Israel," said Irine.
"Plomatic pressure must be accompanied by an independent investigation mechanism so that evidence of war crimes is legally documented," continued the member of Commission V of the DPR.
Irine also stressed that Indonesia needs to use its position in the UN Human Rights Council, the Non-Aligned Movement (GNB), and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the ASEAN Parliamentarians for Human Rights to form a corridor humanitarian free from Israeli military intervention. This is considered important so that food, clean water, medicines and health services assistance can reach civilians without a hitch.
Indonesia has a moral, historical, and constitutional mandate to always side with the independence of the colonized nation. Therefore, our diplomacy must not stop at the forum for statements of attitude, but must touch concrete steps that stop genocide in Gaza as well as save the Palestinian people from prolonged suffering," he concluded.
