MBG Poisoning In DIY, Sultan HB X Suspects Triggering Menu Food Without Considering Quality

JAKARTA - Governor of the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X suspects that the case of food poisoning in the Free Nutrition Food (MBG) program in DIY is due to the prepared menu in a hurry without considering the quality of food.

"Maybe it's cooking at half past two in the morning. If the vegetable (cooks) is at half past two in the morning, it's just eaten at eight or at 10 o'clock, it has to wither (bare)," he said in Yogyakarta, Friday, quoted by Antara.

According to him, the problem occurs when the catering load doubles, for example from the usual 50 servings to 100 servings, while the number of human resources or cooking staff is not added.

This condition makes the Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG) as a service provider must prepare dishes much earlier in order to catch up with time.

"Even though (MBG) is still being tried, it is burdened with 100 servings. That means double. What does that mean? Maybe the cooking is at half past two in the morning," said the King of the Yogyakarta Palace.

In order to prevent repeated cases, he assessed that cooking staff must be added so that food is not prepared too early.

"How to avoid that, just multiply the cook. So you don't cook at two o'clock or three in the morning, then eat it at eight o'clock or at 10 o'clock, you have to be poisoned," he said.

Regarding supervision, the Sultan said it was the responsibility of the local government to oversee the target schools of the MBG program.

"Ya berarti pemerintah daerah setempat, 'wong' sekolah-sekolah lha (Pemda DIY) mau mengawasi bagaimana," katanya.

Regarding hygiene, he considered the factor relative, because great risks still arise when food is still prepared too early.

"If the hygiene is relative to that. But cooking vegetables, it's getting night, not getting morning, it's getting nightier, it must be in the form of wilting (babi)," he said.

The DIY Health Office (Dinkes) stated that it had conducted a possible study on the determination of extraordinary events (KLB) for the post-toxic MBG program that hit hundreds of students in a number of districts in this province.

Cases of mass poisoning, including in Sleman Regency on August 13, 2025, reportedly hit 212 students from Muhammadiyah 1 Mlati Junior High School, Muhammadiyah Junior High School 3 Mlati, SMP Negeri 3 Mlati, and Pamungkas Mlati Middle School.

All of these students are known to experience symptoms after eating food in the MBG program which is distributed to their respective schools.
