Petamburan Crowd Trial, Rizieq Shihab Presents 3 Relieving Witnesses

JAKARTA - Three witnesses will be presented at the follow-up trial in the case of the alleged crowd and health protocol violations (prokes) in Petamburan for the defendant Rizieq Shihab and five former FPI officials. They are witnesses to lighten or ad charge.

"Fact witnesses, about 2 to 3 people," said Rizieq Shihab's lawyer, Aziz Yanuar to reporters, Monday, May 3.

However, the identity of the witnesses is not yet known. Aziz said that if they knew and attended the Maulid Nabid event and Rizieq Shihab's daughter's wedding party.

On the other hand, Aziz also emphasized that they had compiled questions that would later be raised to the witnesses.

From the testimonies of the witnesses, it is hoped that they can prove the truth.

"God willing, be ready with questions and facts from fact witnesses," said Aziz.

In the alleged violation of the health protocol in Petamburan, Rizieq Shihab was charged with incitement to the appearance of a crowd at his daughter's wedding as well as commemorating the Prophet's birthday. This crowd occurred in the midst of the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Rizieq was charged with violating Article 160 of the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 93 of Law Number 6 of 2018 concerning Health Quarantine in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph 1 to 1 of the Criminal Code and or Article 82 paragraph 1 jo Article 59 paragraph 3 letter c and d Law Number 16 of 2017 concerning Community Organization in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph 1 to 1 KUHP jo Article 10 letter b KUHP jo Article 35 paragraph 1 KUHP.
