DKI Will Install 12 S Portals In Kuningan, Barring Motorists From Riding The Sidewalk

JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Highways Agency will install an S portal barrier along the sidewalks around the Kuningan area, South Jakarta. There are 12 S portal points to be installed.

Head of the DKI Jakarta Highways Agency, Hari Nugroho, said that the installation will be carried out in the first week of May 2021.

"There are 12 points that need to be installed with S portal barriers. The points start from the sidewalk of Jalan Dr. Satrio, the Shell petrol station to the front of Kuningan City Mall," Hari told VOI, Thursday, April 29.

Hari said the S portal was installed with the aim of preventing motorbikes from climbing on to the sidewalk and using the sidewalk as a parking lot.

The advantage is that the S portal, which is designed with two curved lines, is still accessible for pedestrians and people with wheelchair users with disabilities.

"The S portal barrier is designed as a barrier so that sidewalks cannot be accessed by motorized vehicles but can still be accessed by pedestrians and wheelchair users," said Hari.

He continued, the decision to install an S portal barrier was based on ease of access. Moreover, the S portal is also better able to block motorbikes from passing than a small pole or bollard.

"Portal S is more disability-friendly and so that motorbikes do not park in the median of the sidewalk," he said.

Furthermore, Hari said that the S portal installation activities were carried out in collaboration with the pedestrian community and people with disabilities. The goal is to maximize its function without reducing easy access.
