KAI Logistics Sustainability Commitment: Strengthening Of Train Mode, Digitization, And Green Action

JAKARTA - In commemoration of Earth Day which falls on April 22, KAI Logistics shows its commitment to environmental sustainability by encouraging the initiative to shift the mode of transporting goods from truck to train and optimizing the use of trains as sustainable transportation. This step is part of the company's long-term strategy to create a greener and more efficient logistics ecosystem.

Dwi Wulandari, VP of Corporate Secretary, revealed that land transportation, especially truck modes, contributes significantly to carbon emissions.

"We believe that trains are future logistics solutions that are more environmentally friendly. By maximizing the transportation of goods through rail lines, the contribution to carbon emissions can be significantly suppressed and support national carbon reduction targets," he said in a written statement, Thursday, April 24.

KAI Logistics continues to expand rail-based transportation services to various strategic areas, including industrial estates and ports, in order to provide competitive mode alternatives for business actors. In addition to being more environmentally friendly, the use of trains has also proven to be more efficient in the long term, especially for long-distance delivery and in large volumes.

As part of the Green Logistics campaign, KAI Logistics continues to improve its capacity, especially in the shift of land modes to trains, including the addition of a series of Container Trains (KA KALOG 3) with a capacity of 30 flat carriages (60 TEUs) or equivalent to 1,080 tons in one trip and operating twice a day.

In addition, KAI Logistics also increased the transport capacity for the Klari route, Karawang to Semarang and Surabaya from the previous 20 GD to 30 GD as a tangible manifestation of the company in facilitating KA-based distribution.

As a strengthening of the sustainable transportation commitment, the Company has also presented digital solutions through the KAI Logistics TRAX application to make it easier for customers to make booking, tracking, and real-time delivery monitoring for KALOG Express services. Furthermore, not only in strengthening operational and service aspects, but KAI Logistics also offsets it with a green step through planting 1,200 trees in early 2025.

These initiatives are in line with the Company's commitment to continue to contribute to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially in the climate action aspect and sustainable infrastructure in line with the company's concrete steps in terms of the environment.

KAI Logistics appreciates business actors who also support and make green logistics successful through the use of train modes in the distribution of goods. One of these is shown through an increasing trend of freight shipments using container transport which increased by 13 percent in 2024, reaching 2.3 million tons and recording more than 530,000 tons in the first quarter of 2025.

Furthermore, green logistics contributes directly to the quality of life of the community, through cleaner air, smoother traffic, reduces the risk of accidents, prolongs the life of road infrastructure, and creates a safer driving environment for the community.

On the other hand, the presence of a more inclusive rail-based logistics network also opens wider access for business actors in various regions, strengthens national connectivity and encourages equitable economic growth.

"KAI Logistics believes that sustainability is not just an option, but a must for Indonesia's greener, fairer, and more resilient future," concluded Dwi.
