The Peak Of Jabodetabek Extreme Rain On March 11, The Government Carries Out Weather Modification Operations

JAKARTA - The Jabodetabek area was hit by heavy rains which caused flooding at a number of points. Head of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Dwikorita said extreme weather in Jabodetabek will continue until next week.

This was revealed by Dwikorita in the Jabodetabek flood control coordination meeting led by the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK).

"For the potential in the next week, because the phenomenon will continue even though it will decrease for a short time, but then it seems to peak on March 11", said Dwikorita, Tuesday, March 4.

Seeing the potential for heavy rain that will continue in the next few days, the Head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) Suharyanto said the government would carry out weather modification operations (OMC) until March 8.

"The weather modification operation, this BNPB will carry out until the 8th. Hopefully, with this OMC at least we will be able to reduce it for the days ahead," said Suharyanto.

Suharyanto continued, BNPB has asked the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to continue OMC in its area, as has been done from the 2025 new year until last February.

Then, BNPB coordinated with the West Java Provincial Government, especially Bogor Regency in deploying a team to deal with landslides and repair broken bridges.

"Then the damaged infrastructure, for example yesterday Bogor Regency, there were 7 bridges. So, for the short term that can be implemented immediately is using a bailey bridge," explained Suharyanto.

Meanwhile, in Bekasi City, 7 sub-districts were recorded to be affected by floods of up to 3 meters and floods in Bekasi Regency hit six sub-districts of up to 1.5 meters.

"Bekasi City is a bit severe. Maybe in the near future we will probably go there ourselves. Today a team will also send it to Bekasi City to see and coordinate directly with the Bekasi Mayor regarding the steps that must be taken," explained Suharyanto.

Then, in Depok City, Suharyanto said the impact of flooding was not as severe as in Jakarta and Bekasi. However, there are still residents who need to be evacuated. Thus, BNPB will increase the stock of rubber boats to evacuate residents.

"Then for Banten, in general, Tangerang City has several areas, we noted that there are 11 areas that are still flooded. Of course we will come there for a team to assist local governments in dealing with floods," he added.
