Ministry Of Foreign Affairs Prepares Humanist AI SARI Chatbots For Indonesian Citizen Service And Protection

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs continues to take advantage of the development of technology, information, digital to artificial intelligence, in order to support the services and protection of Indonesian citizens (WNI) abroad.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Arrmanatha Ch. Nasir said, related to the use of the digital ecosystem in efforts to protect and provide services, Kemu continues to strive to increase innovation.

"There is a Safe Travel, Portal Peduli WNI. Now we are continuing to increase innovation, including using AI (artificial intelligence) in providing assistance to Indonesian citizens with the SARI system (Indonesian Migrant Artificial Relations)," he explained in his presentation on the service and protection achievements of Indonesian citizens abroad throughout 2024 at the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Thursday, February 13.

"Using AI so that real time can get security information, danger, the threat of crime in which Indonesian citizens are located," added the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia.

Meanwhile, the Director of Protection for Indonesian Citizens at the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Judha Nugraha, explained that the Portal Cares for Indonesian citizens is a web base. Meanwhile, Safe Travel is a mobile application that can be downloaded on the App Store or Play Store

"This is a form of commitment from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to carry out digital transformation to make it easier for people to get the service and protection of Indonesian citizens," explained Judha.

He further explained that the Peduli WNI portal link dedicated to Indonesian citizens who live abroad is in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Portal. There are three main features, namely Self-Report, Consululal Service, Case Complaints.

"All of that can now be done online, so it makes it easier for the community. In the past, reporting to yourself had to come physically to the Indonesian Embassy, now there was no need. As long as there is an internet, you can report online. Complaining, nor do you need to come to the Indonesian Embassy, or you don't have to come to Pejambon (Kemlu RI), it can be online. Wherever you can get services from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia," explained Judha.

Meanwhile, Safe Travel, continued Judha, is dedicated to Indonesian citizens who travel briefly abroad, although Indonesian citizens who live abroad can also use it.

"There are various features that we have pinned. First, emergency button or emergency button that can be used by Indonesian citizens in emergency situations," said Judha.

"When pressed, the application automatically looks for the nearest Indonesian Representative by distance, then gives an alert to the officers in the Indonesian Representative, there are our Indonesian citizens who are in danger, the sharelocation is also complete, and to become a follow-up material with local authorities," he explained.

Next, Judha said that a chatbot with AI called SARI will soon be launched to provide more humane services.

"If ordinary chatbots cannot detect language, (SARI) even use Javanese can respond, they can provide empathy. We have trained to be able to provide empathy and also respond to needs when getting problems," explained Judha.

Added by Judha, there are also features that make it easier in the context of service, such as electronic custom declaration (ECD) in Safe Travel, to features regarding the relaxation of import duties for migrant workers and various other features.

"This may be about the budget, these innovations not only improve service quality, but also reduce costs," said Indonesian Deputy Foreign Minister Arrmanatha.

"In the past, previously we tended to assign people to stand by if it was a weekend, we paid overtime and so on. Now, maybe it can be reduced because there is this innovation," he said.
