Prabowo: NU Serves Great In Independence And Integrity Of The Republic Of Indonesia

JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto expressed his appreciation and respect for the great role of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) in Indonesia's struggle for independence and its contribution to maintaining the integrity of the nation.

This was conveyed by the Head of State when delivering his remarks on the agenda for the commemoration of NU's 102nd Birthday which was held at Istora Senayan, Jakarta, Wednesday, February 5.

"On behalf of myself and on behalf of the Indonesian government, once again congratulations to NU. NU has a great service to the birth of the Indonesian nation. The struggle for independence is centered on Islamic boarding schools," said the President as quoted by ANTARA.

Although the Proclamation of Indonesian Independence is echoed in Jakarta, the President said, the real test of independence took place in Surabaya, especially in Battle on November 10, 1945.

In this incident, NU scholars appeared as fighters, pioneers, and leaders in defending Indonesia's independence.

"Proclamation was born in Jakarta, but tested in many places, and the biggest test took place in Surabaya," he said.

Prabowo also appreciated NU's consistency in maintaining the legacy of the nation's struggle. He considered NU as a large organization that oversees ulama and Islamic leaders, and continues to be committed to fighting for a peaceful Islam.

The President emphasized that NU has always been at the forefront of defending the country and defending the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI).

He called NU a nationalist religious group, in line with himself who carried the spirit of religious nationalism.

Prabowo reiterated his respect for the NU leadership from time to time, which he said was always consistent in maintaining unity and fighting for national values.

The peak of NU's 102nd Harlah commemoration took place at Istora Senayan, Central Jakarta with the theme "Working with the People for Indonesia Maslahat".

The peak event was attended by around 15 thousand participants and a number of NU Autonomous Agencys (Banom), such as Muslimat, Fatayat, IPNU, IPPNU, and GP Ansor NU.
