South Korean Constitutional Court Promises To Hold A Fair Trial On President Yoon's Impeachment
JAKARTA - South Korea's Constitutional Court pledged to hold a fair trial, without being influenced by public opinion regarding President Yoon Suk Yeol's impeachment trial.
"As an independent court, the Constitutional Court will never be moved by a campaign of public opinion outside the court and hold a fair trial," said court spokesman Cheon Jae-hyun as quoted by ANTARA from Yonhap-OANA, Thursday, January 9.
Cheon stated that this was amid accusations by Yoon's legal representative of the possibility of injustice during the trial process.
He denied allegations by Yoon's attorney that his impeachment trial was going at an unusually fast pace compared to the previous presidential impeachment trial.

Cheon also dismissed claims about a court rapidly scheduling a date for another impeachment trial over Yoon's case due to pressure from the ruling bloc, with Cheon describing it as "a matter that goes against the facts."
Meanwhile, the South Korean Constitutional Court said it was currently reviewing Yoon's request for legal representatives to suspend the order for the impeachment of the president's detention.
