The Corruption Eradication Commission: Why Are We Prioritizing Prevention? Because We Want To Educate The Public So That They Are Not Corrupt
JAKARTA - The head of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) said that currently, the KPK is prioritizing the aspects of education and prevention rather than prosecution. This step was taken because this method was considered more promising than continuing to take action.
"Why is the KPK now prioritizing three approaches to education, prevention, and prosecution? One of them is that the KPK wants to educate all elements of society so that they do not want to commit corruption. The KPK realizes that eradicating corruption cannot be done by the KPK itself", Firli said in a written statement quoted on Friday, April 16th.
According to him, the KPK needs to strengthen anti-corruption education so that the younger generation does not come into contact with corruption. Firli wants corruption to disappear from young people in order to change corruptive habits in the future.
Moreover, in the future, young people will face various challenges. "There are at least four challenges that will be faced by youth in the future, namely corruption, narcotics, terrorism, natural and non-natural disasters", he explained.

In addition, his party will continue to encourage the active role of universities in developing integrity in the campus environment. One of them is by implementing anti-corruption education as a subject and building anti-corruption higher education governance.
In the future, Firli also said that the KPK would strengthen prevention for state officials. This strengthening is necessary so that state administrators can keep state funds from being corrupted.
"Why do people corrupt? One of the reasons is low integrity. Because corruption can arise when the opportunity to meet with power is coupled with low integrity", concluded the former KPK Deputy for Enforcement.
