BPOM Confiscates Hundreds Of Illegal Import Cosmetics Worth IDR 8.9 Billion
JAKARTA - The Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) confiscated hundreds of types of illegal imported cosmetics and contained hazardous materials circulating on the island of Java with an economic turn of IDR 8.9 billion.
Head of BPOM Taruna Ikrar said that in the joint team's action operations in the period October - November 2024, there were a total of 235 types of cosmetics from a number of major cities in Banten, West Java, Central Java and East Java.
"The goods were confiscated to be destroyed and we also took legal action with the police, the majority of which were distributors to business actors who used this cosmetic and or marketed it illegally," said Taruna Ikrar as reported by ANTARA, Monday, December 30.
Hundreds of cosmetic products confiscated were imported products that entered Indonesia illegally, and the majority also contained raw materials that were harmful to skin health such as Mercuri, Rhodamin B, Hidrokinon, Tretinoin and the like.
The cosmetics confiscated by the joint officers had a trade brand LAMEILA, AICHUN BEAUTY, WNP'L, MILA COLOR, 2099, XIXI, JIOPIAN, SVMY, TANAKO, AND ANYLADY.

Based on the results of the investigation by the BPOM team, it is known that the cosmetic brands confiscated came from China, South Korea, India, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines, which entered illegally into Indonesia through "rat" ports and ordering through social media by a number of people who are also beauty salon business actors.
"Yes, that's right, it is dominated by imported products which are also marketed through social media. Some even though they are imported (illegal) but operate illegally because they do not have official permits to be marketed," he said, adding that the discovery of illegal cosmetics during the October-November 2024 period was mostly in Solo, Semarang, Bandung, and Cimahi with an economic turn of IDR 4.9 billion.
